Join us at the Central Alberta Regional Consortium offices in Red Deer for two 50-minute workshops covering the Grade 5 topics, Weather Watch and Classroom Chemistry. Nigel Stuart, PhD, of Red Deer College, will review the basic science of weather, and suggest appropriate activities. Manuel Juarez, MVSc, MBA, PhD, will cover Classroom Chemistry by sharing ideas of how to bring this subject into your classrooms.
Weather Watch will begin at 6:00 pm, and Classroom Chemistry at 7:00 pm.
Participate in exciting hands-on and interactive demonstrations and leave with plenty of resources and ideas to enable you to walk into your classroom ready to teach these science units with more confidence and clarity.
Nigel Stuart, PhD runs the Red Deer College weather station (see current conditions at http://www.rdscience.ca/weathernow.htm ) and is working to get Earth Science reintroduced at the college. He will review the basic science of weather as it relates to the curriculum, and suggest and demonstrate appropriate activities.Manuel Jaurez
Manuel Juárez is a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, with experience in animal production, genetics and carcass and meat quality. Chemistry is an important component of Manuel’s job, as many of his studies require complex analysis in the lab. He always enjoyed chemistry growing up, and now he spends many hours trying new experiments with his daughter.
