Session Location:
Central Alberta Regional Consortium 8 Page Avenue, Red Deer, AB
About the Session:

The LSCI Certification training teaches both foundational and intervention skills for reaching out to young people and turning problem situations into learning opportunities. In addition to the skills taught in the Talking with Students in Conflict, participants will learn:

  • How to carry out all six of the LSCI Interventions to bring about long-term behavioral changes in young people. In addition to the Red Flag and Reality Rub interventions, participants will learn:
  • How to help young people who have the right intentions but lack the social skills to be successful
  • How to help young people who are purposefully aggressive with little conscience
  • How to help young people who act in impulsive ways due to feelings of shame and inadequacy
  • How to help young people who become entangled in destructive peer relationships

The LSCI Certification training is a competency-based training offering advanced professional skills. Teachers, special educators, school administrators, social workers, counselors, youth care workers, administrators, psychologists, and any professionals in direct contact with troubled youth will gain from the advanced intervention skills offered in this course. It is particularly useful when team members are trained together.
Certification in LSCI includes:

  • A comprehensive Participant’s Manual covering the training and techniques
  • The text Life Space Crisis Intervention: Talking with Students in Conflict
  • Instructor-led teaching and modeling of intervention skills
  • Real-life video sequences
  • Structured and small group activities
  • Realistic role-play activities
  • Demonstration of skills requirement in order to earn certification

Upon successful completion of the training, participants receive a Certificate of Competency in Life Space Crisis Intervention from the LSCI Institute.

About the Presenter(s):
Robert Reid

Rob Reid is Principal at Lacombe Outreach School and is a senior trainer for Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI).  He has multiple years of experience with severe behavior programming and has led district program structures.  LSCI is an advanced, interactive therapeutic strategy for turning crisis situations into learning opportunities for children and youth with chronic patterns of self-defeating behaviors.  LSCI views problems or stressful incidents as opportunities for learning, growth, insight and change.  This non-physical intervention program uses a multi-theoretical approach to behavior management and problem solving.  LSCI provides staff a road map through conflict to desired outcomes using crisis as an opportunity to teach and create positive relationships with youth.
