TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL K-9 TEACHERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

Join us for this self-paced exploration through resources and experiences designed to support your journey in unpacking how to provide instruction that develops conceptual understanding in students.  Consider theoretical foundations, practical application and strategic assessment processes that help students to develop competencies, make meaningful connections between knowledge and the application of skills, and engage authentically with significant ideas within our complex world.

About the Presenter(s):
Cheryl Babin

is a consulting member of the Calgary Regional Consortium team.  With experience in public, international and independent schools as an educator, experiential learning director, instructional coach and consultant, Cheryl designs and facilitates online and face to face professional development sessions about teaching for conceptual understanding.  She currently holds a role as an International Baccalaureate Programme Coordinator and workshop leader. Cheryl supported pre-service teachers as a sessional instructor for B. Ed. students at St. Mary's University in Calgary. Specific areas of interest and experience include designing learning through a pedagogy of inquiry, concept based curriculum and instruction, student engaged assessment, and the development of international-mindedness and global perspectives.  

Cancellation Policy:

Request for cancellation or refund must be received in writing (fax/email) at the CARC office a minimum of 7 FULL days prior to the event start, or registration fees will apply and refunds will not be issued. If you are unable to attend a session and unable to provide seven FULL days’ notice, please feel free to delegate an alternate to attend in your place. CARC also reserves the right to cancel an event within the 7 calendar days due to unforeseen circumstances such as facility closures, terrorist threats, natural disasters or extreme inclement weather (-35 C or colder). Cancellation notices should be sent to npenney@carcpd.ab.ca.

Special Notes: Participants will receive an email invitation with login instructions from PowerSchool Learning on the date the course opens. This self-paced course will be open from October 15th - November 29th, 2019. To receive a certificate of completion, participants must complete course work during this time frame. Sorry, no extensions will be provided. Estimated time of completion of the full eCourse is approximately 10 hours. Total completion time will vary for individuals dependent on level of participation within the course.
