We are excited to have B.C. teacher, author and literacy consultant Adrienne Gear back our district for a dynamic ‘Powerful’ workshop. In this session, Adrienne will share her ideas on how to develop a balanced reading program to incorporate both “in the book” and “in your head” reading skills as well as how to integrate the Reading Power strategies into your content areas. She will review the key concepts of Reading Power and the levels of understanding – from literal to interactive. She will share lessons, student samples and recommended anchor books to support the lessons. As always, Adrienne’s workshops are very practical, so you will leave with lessons you can use in your classroom tomorrow!
Adrienne Gear has been teaching in the Vancouver School District for over 25 years. Passionate about literacy and learning, Adrienne continues to teach two days a week, as well as present workshops and demonstration lessons in districts across the province. She is the author of the five professional books for teachers on reading and writing instruction for elementary grades and is the co-author of a book for Secondary teachers. Adrienne lives in Vancouver, B.C. with her husband and their two teenage sons.
