This series of three 2-hour online learning sessions will help educators engage students in Mathematics (primary grades).
Research shows that spatial reasoning is critical to mathematical thinking, and better predicts future math success than verbal and math skills. It also plays an integral role in all math strands and supports the development of visualization in the current Alberta curriculum and the essential understanding of spatial relationships and visualization in the proposed Alberta curriculum. This practical three-part workshop offers a fascinating overview of spatial reasoning, with virtual simulations to explore your own spatial reasoning abilities. It also offers several spatial reasoning and visualization activities that can immediately be integrated into existing math programs, and presented either virtually or in the classroom. Included are creative ideas for delivering virtual and in-class ‘Spatial Math Talks and Challenges’ that further develop students’ spatial thinking in an engaging manner. You will leave with ideas to use in your students in the very next math class.
