About this Learning Opportunity

Communication in the classroom can involve more than verbal instructions. In this series, EAs will learn the nuances of improved communication in the classroom to assist with all learners regardless of diagnosis. Themes will touch on competency related to assisting the language needs of learners, how communication is important in wellness as a child and an adult, increasing knowledge of communication in the classroom, and looking at specific diagnoses related to communication disorders and delays.

What to Expect Virtual, 1-hour Sessions: Held once a month from 4-5pm, conveniently scheduled after school hours to fit into your busy day. Balanced Learning Experience Learning Segment: Focused on introducing and exploring topics essential to your role. These learning segments wil be recorded for your future reference. Discussion Segment: Dedicated to open discussions, alowing you to share insights, chalenges, and experiences with fe low Educational Assistants.

About the Facilitator

April Prescott

April Prescott is a Certified Canadian Counsellor whose work focuses on children and youth in care across Northern Alberta. Previously, she was the Inclusive Education Coordinator for Aboriginal Head Start in Edmonton for 7 years, a teacher in a PUF program for 10 years, and 5 years as an Educational Assistant across K-12.
